It was fresh and had good beef flavor, akin to Oberto's (one of my favorite store brands).The "hot" is not very hot, more peppery and it leaves a mild after-burn vs feeling hot in the mouth right away. Much better quality than a brand like Pemmican---I would buy Mr Z's over Pemmican if they were similarly priced.I ranked it as a four because it is as good as any store-brand I've tried;however, no widely-available store brand I have ever tried (including this one) is as good as some of the small boutique handmade jerkey that one can buy in, for example, Texas.Product Description
