Review of Mr. Z Premium Cuts Beef Jerky Sweet & Hot Flavor, 4-Ounce Bags (Pack of 6)

This is good jerky. The texture is pleasant, (not too tough, and not too soft). There is not a-lot of connective tissue and silver skin, as there sometimes is in this strip sliced beef jerky. The flavor was a little disappointing. I like spicy foods. When I buy a product that says "Sweet and Hot" I expect it to hit me with both ends and I really only got a hint of either in this product. As for the horrifying chemicals and preservatives, its jerky, they all have lots of cures and preservatives. I have eaten three bags so-far and have not died yet......though I have developed this odd tick.....odd tick.....odd tick.....

This is the tastiest beef jerky I've ever had. It's thin sliced and tender (for jerky), and has great flavor (although it was a bit salty for my taste). I bought it specifically for a backpacking trip, because I needed something ultra lightweight and nutrient dense.It is also sugar-free, and I could not find any jerky locally that didn't have sugar added.I'm on a low-carb diet, and it's extremely frustrating that almost all processed food out there has sugar added.

I love this stuff! Wild Ride Kickin' Teriyaki (Hormone & Antibiotic Free) has NO nitrites and NO MSG. It is made with natural ingredients, which is about as healthy as you can get while still eating beef. It is also low in calories. An entire 4-ounce bag is only 200 calories, or 50 calories per serving, high in protein and low in fat. I'm watching my weight, and Wild Ride is a welcome addition to my balanced diet.

Essentially, it is sliced steak in a bag. An average piece is bite-size, about one inch square and about 1/8 inch thick. Keep in mind that Wild Ride is definitely NOT shoe-leather-tough like most jerky products, thus traditional beef jerky lovers may be put off by the tender quality of the meat. If you're looking for tough meat with the consistency of a radial tire, then buy something else. But if you want beef jerky that is chewy, tender, and flavorful, get this product.

I have only one complaint; about 1 in 5 bags have a few pieces containing gristle or sinew (the pieces don't break down completely when you chew them). While this is an inconvenience, the problem is still minor enough for me to give the product five stars based on overall taste and quality.

Kickin' Teriyaki is slightly sweet (like Teriyaki sauce) and not too salty. It is one of my favorite flavors. MMmmmm! Yummy!

The jerky is the driest I have ever come across and crumbles as soon as you put it in your mouth.Taste is terrible but I guess you would have to be able to get past the texture to better judge the flavor.Even my dog doesn't like the jerky, normally his favorite treat.

Review of Mr. Z Premium Cuts Beef Jerky Peppered Flavor, 4-Ounce Bags (Pack of 6)

The jerky is well made with good flavor. It has nice chewy texture with strong pepper flavor. I think it compares pretty well to some of the better beef jerky brands such as Jack Links.

The beef jerky is made in Brazil. I have no idea what their standard is for beef production nor food processing is, but since imported beef is used in a lot of domestically processed foods including fast food chains, you'd best be cooking at home if consuming imported beef would be a great concern for you.

Also, there was the other reviewer who had a nice diatribe about this product containing all these "preservatives," but of the ingredients he listed, only sodium nitrate is in fact a preservative and a widely used one at that. The other chemicals listed also are generally known to be safe for human consumption.

While they're not exactly vitamins or anything that would be good for you, but if you're afraid of some emulsifiers or dehydrators, you probably shouldn't be eating factory made beef jerky or any processed food for that matter. A lot of these "chemicals" that are used in processed food are naturally occurring in whole foods any way.

I don't mean to discourage people from watching what they eat nor trying to eat healthier food. Rather I hope more people would try to research and understand what they're eating. I simply don't believe blind fear mongering is a way to go about it. Have some jerky. Enjoy life. Moderate.

I liked this jerky. It's got a good flavor, the pieces are a nice size and texture, and it's from grass-fed beef (no organic claims, however). It's imported from Brazil. The price seems to be comparable with grocery store prices, although I liked it better than the typical grocery store brands. The original flavor is salty - no sweetness. The 4-oz bag is a good size to have - more than one snack, but it probably won't dry out before you eat it all.

The positives:
1. Grass fed beef
2. Good texture, not too hard
3. Mostly even strips of bite sized pieces, not too big or chunky
4. Good flavor

The negatives:
1. MSG
2. High sodium (not excessive compared to most beef jerky, but it's still a lot of salt)
3. A zipper top on the bag would be nice

I really enjoy good beef jerky.However, since I found a Brazilian brand of beef jerky that is sold in my local Kroger, nothing else matches up.I received a sample of Mr. Z Premium Beef Jerky, Teriyaki flavor.I usually really like Teriyaki flavor, but this one was a bit too mild and not very flavorful.In addition, the pieces I tried were very very tough and cut with the grain rather than against the grain.

I didn't enjoy it too much at all, but my 11 year old son enjoyed it quite a bit and finished the bag.He isn't too particular, though, and hasn't had any beef jerky that he's disliked so much he wouldn't finish it.

Recommended if you don't have a particular brand that you compare all beef jerky to and if you find this one at a reasonable price.

The best jerky ever is World Kitchens Brown Sugar Beef Jerky, 16-Ounce Bags (Pack of 2). I've tried this flavor and the teriyaki, and it's just great.

I gave this jerky 3 stars for taste and texture alone.I usually pay a lot of attention to the item's ingredients. I failed to do so this time.
